How to Start CA in Pakistan: ICAP Entry Routes 2025 Explained

There Is No "One Size Fits All"

One of the most frequent point of confusion for new students is figuring out exactly where their CA journey begins. The ICAP Education Scheme 2025 offers multiple distinct entry routes depending entirely on what you have done prior to registration. Let's break down the two primary channels.

1. The Full-Time/Foundation Route (Post HSSC/A-Levels)

This is the traditional route chosen by students immediately after completing high school or college.

  • For HSSC Students: If you have an aggregate of 60% or above, you are granted direct admission into the Pre-Requisite Competencies (PRC) stage.
  • For A-Level Students: You need an equivalence of 60%, meaning passing at least three subjects with decent margins.
  • The QAT Filter: What happens if you score between 50% and 60%? You are not automatically rejected. However, before ICAP registers you for PRC, you must pass the Qualifying Assessment Test (QAT). This is ICAP's way of ensuring you have the baseline analytical and linguistic aptitude necessary to survive CA.

2. The Direct / Graduate Entry Route

If you have already spent four years earning a university degree, ICAP does not force you to start from zero.

  • 16-Year Unversity Degrees: Graduates from HEC-accredited/specified institutions can bypass the foundational stages. Depending on the university's rating (e.g., W-category) and the subjects studied, graduates directly enter CAF or transition straight to articleship.
  • Professional Qualifications: If you are partially or fully qualified through ACCA, ICMAP, CIMA (UK), or PIPFA, ICAP offers accelerated pathways mapping directly to your existing competencies.

Whether you begin fresh out of college or transition from a master's degree, the endpoint—the prestigious CA designation—remains universally identical.
